Every September, my calendar fills up with families looking for outdoor family sessions. These families come to me because they want the traditional fall portraits. I get it. Who doesn’t love golden light, vibrant yellow foliage and crisp autumn air? Unfortunately for Calgarians, autumn is often a short and unpredictable session. While photos in the fall foliage can be beautiful, in-home family photography sessions are a fun and unique alternative to traditional outdoor portraits.

Autumn in Calgary is short and unpredictable. It can be freezing, or it can be hot. The leaves on the trees are fragile and with one wind or snow storm, they are gone. With unpredictable weather conditions, family photos can be tricky

No need to worry about ruining the look of your outfit with a big bulky winter parka or trying to coordinate stylish outwear for the entire family. When you stay inside, you can wear a pretty dress, skip the tights and stay warm.
In-Home Sessions Are More More Relaxed
Having your family photos taken at home is both relaxing and convenient, especially for families with little kids. As a mom to a toddler with strict sleep schedule, I live my life in three hour increments. With an in-home family session, you don’t waste valuable time travelling to and from your photo session. Instead, I come to your house and your little ones are surrounded by the comforts of home. Being at home means your kids can stop and to take breaks whenever they need.
In my experience, adults also feel more relaxed and comfortable at home. No strangers gawking when I ask you to snuggle in close together. No other photographers waiting in line to use your space. You can let down your guard and just be yourself. This helps create a more fun, intimate and relaxing atmosphere.

Indoor family sessions are incredibly flexible and give you the best of both worlds. At every in-home session, I give families the option to spend a little time outdoors. It’s easy to sneak outside and find a great spot for outdoor photos in your neighbourhood. Your front door also makes an amazing backdrop for family photos

This place that you live is part of your story and it holds more memories and meaning than any park or public outdoor space every could.
